Pinwheels For Prevention

Pinwheels for Prevention Display from Children's HospitalFor the past 4 years, Prevent Child Abuse Ohio has organized “Pinwheels For Prevention”, a campaign to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect in the community.

In April, pinwheels are planted in public locations, with each pinwheel representing one reported case of child abuse in the community. In 2006, there were 6,954 cases of child abuse reported in Franklin County. This year marks the first ever comprehensive, statewide child abuse prevention program in which all 88 counties participated. Pinwheels will be on display in every county in Ohio throughout the month of April. Yesterday, these pinwheels were planted in the Livingston Avenue Park to kick off Franklin County’s display.

PinWheels_2008112Each of the past 4 years, members of the Lifestyle Communities IT Department have assisted in designing, organizing and planting the pinwheels. This year’s display featured two large pinwheels and the text “88 in 08″. A big thanks goes out to all of the employees (and their families) who participated in the event.

More pictures from the event are available on Flickr.
