Sunergos Coffee is a Louisville favorite and brainchild of co-owners Brian Miller and Matthew Huested. After opening its doors in Summer 2004, this micro-roastery quickly became a popular destination for people looking for good coffee and hospitality. As they say, one of the best ways to experience their coffee is to visit them, and they’ve made it easier for you by offering three different locations throughout Louisville. Stop in to experience it for yourself, and try the espresso. It was a former winner of America’s Best Espresso.
800 E Market Street
Louisville, KY 40206
Located in NuLu, this coffee shop/record store combo is a cool and quirky place to get your caffeine fix. Pair that with award-winning chocolate chip cookies and you have a pretty solid contender for best cup of joe in the ‘Ville. Through a partnership with the roasters at Good Folks Coffee, owner and operator Brooke Vaughn is poised to keep Please & Thank You a coffee shop staple in Louisville for many years to come.

Owner Nathan Quillo opened Quills Coffee with a passion for premium coffee roasting, brewing, and relationship building. It didn’t take long before it became one of the most recommended coffee shops in the city, likely because Nathan and his team are so committed to brewing the perfect cup. By sourcing beans from all over the world and cultivating a sense of community, Quills distinguishes itself as a go-to spot in Louisville. Visit the Highlands location and sneak out the side door for a great photo opp in the alleyway.
Highland Coffee Company
1140 Bardstown Road
Louisville, KY 40204
A long-time staple of the Louisville coffee scene, Highland Coffee Company might be the most eclectic spot on the list. For more than 18 years, Highland has served an extensive variety of custom bean blends, nitro-cold coffee, and some of the best vegan options in town. With “I know where Highland Coffee is” as its slogan, it makes sense that this shop has a bit of a cult following. Try the vegan bourbon hot cocoa and chai tea lattes, too. Actually, just try it all, you’ll be glad you did.
516 W Main Street
Louisville, KY 40202
With the most Louisville locations of any shop on the list (13 brick and mortars and one Airstream espresso bar), Heine Brothers’ is likely one of the most well-known coffee houses in the city. Founded in 1994, it prides itself on being a 100% fair trade and organic coffee roaster. In addition to some high-quality coffee, they also have a pretty cool community-driven page on the website called “Mugs Around The World.” Through it, fans of the brand can submit photos of their Heine Brothers’ coffee cups, to-go mugs and bumper stickers from all corners of the globe.
