Keep Nutrition Simple this Summer with Green-Face

One simple rule to remember will help you stay on your healthy eating plan.

You have probably heard before that eating healthy is “easy”, and a simple Google search for healthy recipes will have you on the right track for a healthy meal. But what happens after you eat? Do you think about tomorrow's breakfast?  What about tomorrow’s lunch or dinner? What happens if you have to eat out for both?  In today’s society we are incredibly busy, and we want instant satisfaction. After a long day at work, we want to come home and do things we enjoy and relax. Time is valuable, and even when you are in a pinch, making healthy nutrition choices are way easy, if you can be semi-prepared.

There are millions of articles on nutrition all throughout the internet, and even though I read some of them, I still operate with one golden rule of eating. “Green-Face”. I know it sounds silly, but hear me out, I promise you it works. When it comes to nutrition, it is pretty simple, and people overcomplicate it and become overwhelmed. “Green-Face” is simply how you set up a meal/ your plate. You pick something that is green (or colorful), which is usually a vegetable of some sort i.e- greens, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, etc. and then you pick something that once had a face i.e.- chicken, beef, eggs, turkey etc. Once picked, you eat your “Green-Face” first, and see how you feel. Nine times out of ten you will feel satisfied, and guilt free.

Think about how easy that can be if your are stuck in a pinch and have to grab lunch out, or order something for dinner when you do not feel like cooking. Easy right? Now it gets even easier if you are semi-prepared. If you do not want to eat out, make part of it in advance. Grill up a few chicken breasts on Sunday. If you do not have a grill, throw them in a slow cooker on low for eight hours before you go to sleep (this literally takes five minutes) and they will be ready to go when you wake up in the morning. Brown some ground beef in a pan, or bake a few turkey burgers in the oven as you are watching your favorite show and winding down. Now you have options, and you only have to think about the green part which is as simple as buying, washing, cutting, and putting them in the fridge.

Keeping it simple is the way to go, no need to waste too much brain power on nutrition. Keep moving forward!
