In much the same way as Habitat for Humanity and its vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, Lifestyle Communities (LC) has a desire to serve the community, improve neighborhoods, and make a difference in the lives of others. As a housing developer, LC prides itself on a commitment to family traditions, proven integrity, and a demand for quality, which is why a partnership with Habitat for Humanity is a clear fit. Though 2014-15 is LC's first year partnering with Habitat, nearly 200 resident and employee representatives have volunteered to help build a house for the homeowner and her daughter. LC joined Greif, a world leader in industrial packaging products and services (headquartered in Delaware, Ohio), to begin the project in October 2014, and a lot of progress has been made in the last few months.

"By being able to build a foundation for my family and by giving me the motivation to keep pushing to make a better future for my child, this house represents everything," said the homeowner, Jasmine.

Jasmine and her daughter are currently living in a small apartment on a very busy street. The street is susceptible to break-ins and the occasional shooting, and simply not a place to raise a child. Jasmine heard about Habitat MidOhio from a friend, and encourages others to apply for homeownership, though Habitat MidOhio's process involves a hand up, not a hand out. Jasmine fulfilled the three criteria for homeownership, as she was living in substandard housing, has a current income which allows her to maintain the cost of a no interest mortgage, and was (and is) willing to partner with Habitat MidOhio via Sweat Equity (250 hours) on the construction of her home, completion of a financial literacy course and a home maintenance course.

We can't wait to share photos of the finished house soon but, until then, take a look at how far we've come in just a few months:
