What to do in Nashville's 12South

Dinner, dessert and destinations in Nashville's popular 12South neighborhood

One of Nashville’s most flourishing neighborhoods, 12South is an eclectic spot that has emerged as an ideal destination for eating, drinking, socializing and shopping. What it lacks in geographic size it makes up for in options to keep visitors entertained. From craft beers and gourmet popsicles to boutique shopping and high-end dining, this charming area strikes a chord with everyone wise enough to walk its streets.

Craving good cuisine? This neighborhood has you covered with Lebanese dishes at Epice and contemporary American cuisine from Josephine. Both are a bit on the higher end from a pricing standpoint, so cost-conscious visitors might add newcomer Bartaco or favorite Burger Up to the list. If one of those strikes your fancy, be sure to allow for plenty of time to get a table. They’re extremely popular (re: crowded) at peaked weekend dinner hours.

Got a sweet tooth? No problem. 12South has a few great places to satiate your sugar craving, including Five Daughter Bakery and its infamous cronuts, Jenis Splendid Ice Creams, and crowd pleaser Las Paletas. The latter, located across the street from Sevier Park, offers frozen treats made with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. They offer 20 or more flavors per day, so you could visit every day of the week and never grow tired of their tasty creations.

Now that your hunger has been curbed, it’s on to shopping - and 12South’s specialty boutiques do not disappoint. You can begin with two of the most popular: White’s Mercantile and Draper James. Owned by the daughter of country music superstar Hank Williams, Jr., White’s Mercantile is a charming shop filled with home goods, clothing and accessories. It’s a great place to treat yourself or someone you care about. You can’t go wrong with any of their adorable items.

While you’re on the street, meander down to Reese Witherspoon’s store, Draper James. This high-end clothing boutique nails the southern charm, featuring complimentary glasses of sweet tea while you peruse the shop. Be sure to pause for a photo opp at its custom blue and white wall on the outside of the store.

We’ve started you off the best way we know how (with dinner, dessert and shopping), but that’s not even half of what the 12South neighborhood has to offer. Plan a visit to this popular and fast-growing area and see what all the hype is about for yourself.
