Nashville’s coffee scene is so good, you won’t visit just for a morning pick-me-up. These five coffee houses bring that little something extra to the table - and we’re not just talking about caffeine. See what all the hype is about and share a snap of your favorite cups with us @lifestylecommunities on Instagram and Facebook.
15 Hermitage Avenue
Nashville, TN 37210
Created by duo Ben and Rachel Lehman, CREMA was founded in 2007 on the idea that the best coffees are a result of great relationships. They take that concept to the nth degree by partnering with farmers to source the highest-quality beans, and by offering coffee classes and sourcing locally-grown ingredients for an expanding food menu. Stop by their brick and mortar at 15 Hermitage Avenue or through other partners like Pinewood Social, The 404 Kitchen, Husk, and Prima, to name a few.
Barista Parlor (Germantown)
1230 4th Avenue North
Nashville, TN 37208
Noted by Epicurious as one of America’s 25 best coffee shops, Barista Parlor certainly lives up to its expectations. Barista’s coffees are made from small-batch and seasonal beans from growers all over the world. They have three employees on the roasting team, plus quality control experts at each of its three locations. Even better, for his Germantown location, owner Andy Mumma sought the help of artist Bryce McCloud of Isle of Printing to create the custom logo, as well as locals from Holler Design, Sideshow Sign Company and Southern Lights Electric - so the interior might be just as good as the coffee. Try it for yourself and let us know.
603 Taylor Street
Nashville, TN 37208
Sourcing their coffees straight from the farms themselves, the roasting team at Steadfast Coffee is serious about the quality of their product. By creating a distinct roasting profile for every coffee, they allow for more complex flavors and qualities than traditional “light” and “dark.” They have a pretty incredible food menu, too, that’s reinvented every season and refreshed multiple times in between. If that’s not enough, you can add beer and wine to the list at their weekday happy hour from 4-6pm.
The Frothy Monkey (12South)
2509 12th Avenue South
Nashville, TN 37204
Frothy Monkey has been a staple in the Nashville community since 2004, and was one of the first businesses to open in the transformed 12th South Nashville neighborhood (find them in the cute Bungalow on 12th Ave. South). In addition to premium coffees, their menu offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner with expanded beverage offerings including craft beer, wine and cocktails. Perhaps most importantly, Frothy Monkey is a neighborhood concept and a proud member of the neighborhoods they serve. You’ll find quality, creativity, and approachability in every aspect of everything they do.
Red Bicycle Coffee & Crepes (Germantown)
1200 5th Avenue North, Suite 104
Nashville, TN 37208
Originally from Chapel Hill, NC, Red Bicycle Coffee & Crepes decided to bring its brand to the heart of Germantown in 2012 - and the neighborhood is better off for it. Like the other shops on the list, Red Bicycle is passionate about sourcing the best coffees in the world. From plant to portafilter, they pay attention to every detail, ensuring the finest tasting coffees are served to you each and every time you order. And, as the name suggests, they’re also a full service crepe shop, serving breakfast, sweet, and savory crepes in over 40 different variations.
It comes as no surprise that the two things each of these top spots has in common is a passion for high-quality products and a desire to form meaningful and lasting relationships. After all, it’s never just about the coffee, is it? In the spirit of each of these fine establishments, take a moment to relax and enjoy a cup with a friend. When you’re done, remember to share your favorites with us.
