Our Place: Come Inside Ashley’s Minimalistic Columbus Apartment Home

Meet Ashley. The self-proclaimed Beyoncé of insurance, a Pennsylvania transplant coming up on her one year anniversary in Ohio, and a lover of everything Target and Louis Vuitton--life is about balance, right?  A little less than a year ago, Ashley decided to take a leap of faith and leave her role as an insurance agent at her family’s business in Pennsylvania for a role in Columbus. Turns out this role was fate in more ways than one--the company moved right across from LC RiverSouth shortly after her arrival in the city and she’s now able to walk to work everyday.

Come along as we step inside Ashley’s home and learn a little bit more about her design inspiration and what she loves about living in Columbus.

How would you describe your style?

I’ve been on a huge minimalistic kick recently, so I’ve been working on decluttering my space and only keeping pieces that have meaning to me--my gallery way is made up of photos from NYC because my grandmother grew up in Brooklyn so the city holds a special place in my heart and the magazines in my room are all ones that I’ve been featured in. I also like to keep the furniture neutral and utilize pillows and rugs to add pops of color. My style is constantly changing so I like being able to make small changes to my space to match my current mood.

What is your favorite element in your home?

The floor to ceiling windows have been my favorite part of the apartment ever since I stepped foot inside of it on day one. I wasn’t able to come and tour the property in person before making a decision, so the first time I got to see my space in person was the day I picked up my keys. The first thing I noticed when I walked into my apartment were the large windows at the end of my apartment with a perfect view of Downtown Columbus. In this moment, while looking over the Columbus skyline, I knew I had made the right decision to move here and that this empty space already felt like home.

What’s your favorite part about living at LC RiverSouth?

I don’t keep a lot of food in the house to avoid constantly snacking so, I love having The Goat downstairs--I’m pretty sure most of the staff knows me by name at this point. And, now that I have the option to do resident delivery right to my door, I don’t even have to leave to get food. I always get the exact same thing: buffalo chicken wrap with grilled chicken, no tomatoes, a side of fries, and a ranch cup for dipping.

What do you like best about the neighborhood?

One of my favorite restaurants, Milestone 229, is actually in my neighborhood which is amazing; I only have to walk a few blocks away to get there. Also, it’s great having so many pet friendly areas nearby. I love taking Zoe on long walks on the Scioto Mile or letting her run around off leash at the Columbus Commons.

What three things in your home could you not live without?

I may be trying to be minimalistic in my home but that rule definitely doesn’t apply when it comes to handbags; I may have a bit of a Louis Vuitton obsession. Number one on the list would definitely be my bags. Number two would be the photo of my grandmother next to my bed--she’s always been such an inspiration to me. And, the last thing would be my phone. My entire life is on my phone and I definitely couldn’t survive without it.
