Nashville’s historic Gulch District originally housed the downtown railroad terminal. From the turn of the century until the 1950s, more than 100 trains arrived and departed from The Gulch daily. It was truly a thriving area, bustling with people and constant activity.
Much of the same can be said today, as The Gulch has developed into a hotspot for young urbanites. By combining its industrial history with a modern style, and ushering in high-end restaurants, upscale shopping and vibrant nightlife options, The Gulch has quickly become of the hottest neighborhoods in all of Nashville.
On any given Saturday, the streets of this neighborhood are practically humming with activity. If, like us, you struggle with narrowing down your list of where to go, we recommend starting with these spots. Hard to go wrong.
The gist: A heavenly breakfast, lunch and dinner spot with a charming ambiance and even better food and drink. Favorites include the fig and prosciutto toast and the burnt sugar latte.
What Lifts You Mural, Kelsey Montague
The gist: One of the most instagrammable sites in all of Nashville. This 20-foot-high installation welcomes visitors to the district and begs for a quick snap in front of the distinctive black and white wings. The incredible work was born from the artistic talents of Kelsey Montague, a New York-based artist originally from Colorado.
The gist: Christie and Walter Carter founded Carter Vintage Guitars in November 2012 with the vision of providing a comfortable place for fine fretted instruments and the people who appreciate them. With more than 25 years of experience in the vintage guitar world, this dynamic duo has created a shop worthy of a visit (and maybe a purchase).
The gist: This popular brick and mortar is the brainchild of self-described “two old hippies,” Tom and Molly. Known for its eclectic mix of men and women’s apparel, jewelry and accessories, visitors will likely find more than one item that becomes a must-have.
The gist: A traditional “meat & 3” restaurant that’s anything but typical. Be prepared to eat your way through the best comfort food out there, including roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and pies that rival anything your grandma could make. Don’t let the line scare you - it moves quickly and the food is well worth the wait.
The gist: Recently voted the Best Bar in Nashville by Nashville Scene, this neighborhood hotspot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. We highly recommend ordering the scallop toast and the Paper Plane cocktail. That one is pure delight in a glass.
